The hotel will offer 55 modern and comfortable rooms located across four floors with executive apartments on the top. Guests will also benefit from a stylish restaurant, indoor- and outdoor swimming pool and spa, as well as wineshop with local delicacies.
All rooms provide a beautiful view of the Tisza River and the emblematic mountain of Tokaj, which is symbolically reflected in the decoration of the bathrooms, meanwhile the outstanding wines of the region are reflected in the grape-shaped lampshades preserved from the previous hotel. Materials and colours from the natural environment surrounding the hotel were also adapted to the interior design.

The hotel is located in an old building that has undergone complete reconstruction and renovation. A prime destination in the city, right on the left bank of the Tisza River, the hotel is walking distance from the main points of interest. Tokaj is Hungary’s most famous wine region, included on UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a growing leisure destination. The city is best known for its world-class wines, with a wine growing tradition dating back more than one thousand years. Located in the far north of the country in the foothills of the Zemplén Hills Tokaj extends into southeast corner of Slovakia. Named after the village of Tokaj, the region is made up of 28 towns scattered along rolling hills and nestled between two rivers, the Tisza and the Bodrog.
“Mercure will be located in one of Tokaj’s iconic building from the 1980s, which used to be the only hotel in the city and now is restored. The historic location and stunning surroundings will combine to create the perfect guest experience, closely linked to the essence of the Mercure brand,” said Csilla Nyiri, General Manager of Mercure Tokaj Center. “Tokaj is one of the fastest growing tourist regions in Hungary after Budapest and Lake Balaton, and Mercure Tokaj Center will be the largest hotel in the town.”
Mercure Tokaj Center not only blends in with the picturesque green landscape in its exterior, but also places great emphasis on sustainability, as the brand does. The hotel does not use plastic drink bottles, in all minibars will be glass bottles only, and other parts of the hotel will serve non-carbonated and carbonated water in recycled bottles. Mercure is also avoiding single-use plastic products and replacing paper-based information leaflets with digital ones.
Accor continues to strengthen its position as a hospitality leader in Central and Eastern Europe by expanding its portfolio of leading brands. Mercure Tokaj Center opens in partnership with Hotel Tokaj Kft. The hotel will be the first Mercure outside of the country capital, Budapest.
“Mercure brand offers upper-midscale hotels that allow the guests to fully experience every destination and the very core. We are excited about this project to bring the brand to the second city in Hungary, in addition to the capital," said Sabina Bartyzel, Accor's Regional Director for Eastern Europe. “We are particularly pleased that one of the most famous Hungarian wine routes and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hungary will be home to the first Mercure hotel outside Budapest. We believe the surroundings of the most famous Hungarian wine route will win the hearts of every guest, allowing them to fully dive in the local spirit of this growing leisure destination.”
