Fairmont Hotels & Resorts was thrilled to host Fairmont Loves Film Ambassador Gia Coppola, Director Cuba Tornado Scott, and Artistic Director of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Cameron Bailey at the official world premiere of the Fairmont Loves Film exhibition yesterday evening, Saturday, September 8th at Fairmont Royal York. Other notable attendees included Jake Scott, Rhea Scott, Christina Hendricks, Barbara Somerville, Chris Soos and Rivington Starchild.
"I’ve always admired the collaborative history that the Fairmont hotels and movies share,” said Gia Coppola. “It’s exciting and an honor for me to help celebrate the relationship between movies and travel.”
The VIP event provided guests with an exclusive sneak peek of the Fairmont Loves Film event series, which consists of pop-up events, multi-media retrospectives and cinema-inspired experiences.
"I am very supportive of anything that celebrates film," said Cameron Bailey. "I wasn't aware of Fairmont's incredible relationship with film previously, and have enjoyed learning more about their contributions to cinematic history."
The event also featured the global premiere screening of Cuba Tornado Scott's short film inspired by Fairmont's history with film-making, titled 9 1/2."9 1/2 years it took to make up my mind about things that shape deeply my perception of the world today," said Cuba Scott. "Right before 10, what was beautiful to me then, remains beautiful to me now."
In addition to viewing the exhibit prior to public opening and before it embarks upon a global tour to London and Shanghai, guests also got to enjoy cocktails in the limited time only Gatsby-inspired speakeasy pop-up bar at in the space formerly known as York Station at the Fairmont Royal York during TIFF.
“We are so honoured to work with the talented Gia Coppola and Cuba Scott who both bring a fascinating perspective to the evolution of film and the timeless appeal of Fairmont hotels,” said Sharon Cohen, Vice President, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. “Much like the idealistic and ambitious founders of the Fairmont brand, Theresa and Virginia Fair, who built and opened the namesake Fairmont San Francisco in 1907, these strong women are all pioneers of their generations and have played significant roles in shaping the culture of their communities.”
The Fairmont Loves Film exhibition at Fairmont Royal York is open to the public through September 15th. Film lovers can celebrate the brand’s storied history with cinema, as Fairmont Hotels has served as the backdrop to many iconic movies, such as The Great Gatsby (1971 and 2013), Breakfast At Tiffany’s, Sleepless in Seattle, and many more.
