Accor Greater China is pleased to announce the opening of two strategic destinations for Grand Mercure, one of Accor’s premium global hospitality brands. Grand Mercure Yichang Waitan resides in Yichang City, along the banks of the Yangtze River; while Grand Mercure Chengdu East is the brand’s first hotel to reside in the southwest area of China. Grand Mercure Chengdu East is the brand’s first hotel in the world to introduce an extended stay offering, known as Grand Mercure Living.
“Grand Mercure is a brand that is especially close to our hearts at Accor Greater China, with a guest experience well-suited to Chinese aesthetics, culture and values,” said Gary Rosen, CEO, Accor Greater China. “Among all the Grand Mercure hotels around the world, a third of those properties are here in Greater China – and we have over 30 more in development. We are especially excited about introducing the brand’s new Living concept, providing a deeper connected experience of the local destination for modern travelers who enjoy mixing business with leisure, and are increasingly choosing to extend their travels a little longer.”
Grand Mercure Chengdu East is located in the Western Financial Innovation Center, right in the core downtown of the Eastern New District of Chengdu. This is a gathering area for visitors and professionals in the area’s centers of expertise in finance, commerce, art and technology. This new Grand Mercure hotel will be a beacon of hospitality among this thriving community, providing the brand’s signature journey of the senses and fresh cultural perspectives.
With 346 guestrooms including 42 serviced residences, Grand Mercure Chengdu East is the brand’s first hotel to introduce its new Living concept. This extended stay option offers spacious serviced apartments, fully equipped with laundry and kitchenettes. Overall, the hotel’s stylish and elegant interior design, modern amenities, and diverse dining options will attract locals as well as tourists, creating an energetic mix of visitors.
Grand Mercure Yichang Waitan has an enviable location overlooking the Yangtze River, with close proximity to the Yichang's Three Gorges Dam tourist area. Yichang is keeping up with the modern economy by building a modern logistics center, while focusing on the growth of its service sector and high value-added industries.
With 306 guestrooms, Grand Mercure Yichang Waitan is ideally located to support the region’s growing industry, while sharing Yichang’s commitment to environmental responsibility and care for its communities. Guests and visitors to the new Grand Mercure hotel will admire the sparkling lights of the Yangtze River at night, encouraging them to explore the rich heritage and natural beauty of the historic Western Hubei region by day.
Grand Mercure’s new Living concept, now available at Grand Mercure Chengdu East, marks the brand’s entry into the fast-growing extended stay market. Leisure and business travelers are increasingly looking for opportunities to stay a little longer and get to know their destinations more authentically, particularly younger generations of travelers who enjoy mixing their business trips with leisure pursuits. The apartment-style living accommodations at Grand Mercure Chengdu East invite travelers to settle in and live as a local among Chengdu, while enjoying the high quality of services and amenities for which Grand Mercure is known.
Globally, Accor has developed an expertise as one of the world’s largest operators of extended stay and serviced apartment properties, with a diverse portfolio of more than 380 extended stay properties, across 14 global brands.
