Vibrant South East Asian Restaurant and Bar, Mr. Good Guy, opens in Devonport
Filling the ground level of the new Novotel Devonport Hotel and opening onto the newly developed waterfront parkland amphitheatre the lively eatery is the second Tasmanian venue for the Mr. Good Guy brand (the original launched in Hobart in 2017).
The menu, curated by Executive Chef Jonathan Prior, features a cross section of authentic hawker style share-plates inspired by traditional dishes from Vietnam, Indonesia, Borneo, Malaysia and Singapore.
Prior’s extensive knowledge of South East Asian cuisine was acquired first-hand. After spending 16 years working across 5-star hotels and restaurants across the region, Prior moved to Tasmania to guide the direction of the Mr. Good Guy properties.
‘South East Asian culture is bright, energetic and dynamic. At Mr. Good Guy we offer guests a taste of that culture, by bringing them delicious, authentic food and unforgettable cocktails inspired by the people and places of these regions,’ Prior said.
‘Mr. Good Guy Devonport is an exciting dining concept for Devonport and the North West. The venue, with its dynamic menu of hawker style shared plates, like Char Siu Pork, fragrant Hainan Chicken Rice and fiery Singaporean Chilli Crayfish will provide guests with the opportunity to try dishes they may have never heard of and understand the influence and importance of each dish on its region of origin.
‘We have the opportunity to use the Mr. Good Guy brand to highlight authentic South East Asian cuisine using, where possible, the great local produce for which Tasmania is so highly regarded.’ said Prior, ‘That is a really exciting opportunity for Devonport and the growers, makers and producers of the region.’
At Mr. Good Guy fresh rice paper rolls, plates of spicy Thai papaya and prawn salad and flavourful Malaysian Curries are made for sharing. Steaming bowls of fragrant Laksa and dishes of crispy spiced eggplant emerge from the kitchen as diners discover authentic regional dishes like Mee Mamak Goreng (wok fried yellow noodles with prawn fritters, tofu and spicy paste) and Kway Teow Seafood, Singaporean rice noodles with grilled seafood, green leaf and ginger gravy.
For those looking for delicious drinks, Mr. Good Guy’s cocktail list is guaranteed to ensure a good time. Here Singapore Slings, Gingerbelles and Vietnamese Espresso Martinis are shaken using local Tasmanian Spirits. After something a little more decadent? Mr. Good Guy’s Kalapa Di, a cocktail of Frangelico, Baileys, Kahlua, and Honen shaken with coconut cream, will soothe the soul and evoke memories of the warm nights and bright lights of trips abroad.
Mr. Good Guy is stirring, steaming, plating, and shaking compelling food and drinks 7 days a week for Lunch and Dinner. Walk-ins are welcome; bookings can be made via the restaurant’s website: www.mrgoodguy.com.au
