October 2017: Lot 51 Lounge and Bar is now open at Sydney’s King Street Wharf, paying homage to the early waterfront heritage of the local area, with a mix of industrial design, maritime themes and eclectic art and furnishings recycled from Sydney’s past.
The intimate lounge and bar transforms through the course of the day. In the morning the space is a relaxing coffee lounge, and in the evening it transforms into to a laid-back bar, providing the perfect spot for an after work beer or wine. Plus, all day long guests can set the atmosphere by selecting their favourite track to play in the bar using Deezer – a jukebox style tablet at the bar open to all guests.
The lounge’s name – Lot 51 – refers to the lot number of the land adjacent to the wharves that lined King Street Wharf from the early 1800s. The boisterous harbour foreshore was surrounded by wharves, bond stores, factories, workshops, offices and pubs, and the design of Lot 51 draws inspiration from the site’s heritage.
Lot 51’s interiors include graffiti and screen printing by artists who have used the space as a canvas for their original and edgy work. Stylist Mia Cipolla, from Urban Style Lab, has filled the space with pieces of furniture, light fittings, paintings and books that she has dug up from second hand markets and auctions in order to create a distinctive urban space with attitude and relevance to the location’s heritage.
Victoria Deak, General Manager of ibis Sydney King St Wharf, said that the new space was drawing in a range of different guests, visitors and locals; including everyone from corporates conducting meetings through to couples enjoying a glass of wine before hitting the town.
“Through Lot 51 Lounge and Bar at ibis Sydney King St Wharf we have created a unique space in the midst of one of Sydney’s busiest areas. Designing a high quality, affordable drinks menu and a space with a great vibe were the priorities for the team. Our café style breakfast menu is also proving particularly popular with many of our guests who are rushing off to meetings or their next flight.
“Plus, it’s been a real bonus to see guests embracing the cool features of this new space that combines fun elements such as books and board games with practical features that corporates needs including all important USB ports,” she said.
Lot 51 is located in Erskine Street, a short walk from Wynyard Station, Barangaroo and the city centre, on the ground floor of the ibis Sydney King Street Wharf. The hotel is located on the corner of Erskine and Shelley Streets in Sydney.
