AccorHotels has launched an online platform in partnership with the Community Chest for over 1,000 of its employees to raise funds for Singaporeans in need
This endeavor allows a unified approach for the Group’s hotels and corporate office in Singapore to join forces towards supporting a local social service around three main causes: Seniors in Need, Persons with Disabilities, and Families in Difficulty. For the very first time, Community Chest has collaborated with an international group to provide staff with the option to donate their leave, on top of offering time or money. The equivalent leave days will be converted by the hotels into cash donations, calculated based on the staff member’s salary.
“We have been looking forward to the opportunity for our 15 Singapore hotels and Corporate Office to come together towards one common cause in support of the community,” said Garth Simmons, CEO AccorHotels Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. “We are very pleased to see this project with Community Chest finally come to fruition. At AccorHotels, we are committed to do supporting our local communities and protecting local ecosystems by fostering sustainable social and economic development.”
The occasion was marked with a launch event at the ibis Singapore on Bencoolen in the presence of Community Chest’s Managing Director, Ms Charmaine Leung, and members of AccorHotels’ regional executive team.
“We are glad to be part of this unique campaign which allows employees from AccorHotels Group to contribute in their own way through direct donations, or the donation of time and leave to empower the lives of the social service users we serve,” said Ms Leung. “It is very heart-warming to see the entire AccorHotels Group coming together as one family to build a caring and inclusive community for those in need.”
The Community Chest was established in 1983 with the mission to raise funds in support of the nation’s 80 social service organisations, by raising funds for those in need. This is not AccorHotels’ first endeavor in support of this organization: past initiatives include the Raffles Hotel’s star-studded black-tie charity gala event in August 2017, which marked the property’s 130th year and raised S$500,000 for Community Chest.
This much-anticipated initiative is in line with AccorHotels’ sustainable development programme Planet 21 in Action, with one of its key priorities being to work hand-in-hand with local communities in every country where the group is represented, while engaging teams towards a virtuous and common cause.
