A cold start to the season has Black Winter Truffle growers predicting a strong truffle season this year and lots of festival fun! In its ninth consecutive year, the Truffle Festival - Canberra Region will once again highlight the rare Black Winter Truffle which is grown in the Canberra area. Running across June, July and August the festival will feature a range of events such as Blessing of the Truffle Dogs, weekend truffle hunts, markets and cooking classes.
Patina Farnham, General Manager Mercure Canberra said, “We are proud to be the accommodation sponsor for the Truffle Festival and believe that it is such a great celebration of what the cooler months can produce. It allows the Region to showcase the amazing food culture that is tucked away in Canberra. We are looking forward to welcoming and sharing the food experience with all of our guests over the Festival period.”
Tarago Truffles are one of the four local truffle growers participating in the 2017 Truffle Festival. Local grower, Denzil Sturgiss from Tarago Truffles stated "At Tarago Truffles we have already harvested some early truffles and identified many more sites that are almost ready. Generally, the signs for the rest of the season look very good, especially if the cold weather continues."
