Accor Asia Pacific’s Chief Talent & Culture Officer receives UN 2019 HeForShe Impact Award
Christine Rumble recognised by the UN Women’s Committee for pushing gender equality in Asia Pacific
A passionate and fulfilled leader in her own right, Christine fully understands not only the competencies and resilience required for women to shine, but also the barriers sometimes faced. She has championed initiatives at all levels of the business to assist women to reach their potential, while providing the confidence and skills to succeed.
“We are honoured to name Christine as this year’s recipient of the HeForShe Influencer award”, said Georgette Tan, President of the Singapore UN Women Committee. “At the Singapore Committee for UN Women, we work towards gender parity as a fundamental human right, whether in the workplace or in the community. For this reason, we need more leaders like Christine who passionately and genuinely champion the cause by achieving a balanced leadership team, equal representation on diversity committees and gender-neutral hiring practices.”
With a regional role extending across 20 countries with over 115,000 employees, Christine understands the challenges that women can face at work, particularly in some Asian countries where cultural habits or stereotypes mean women can be left behind when it comes to personal growth and development.
As the first leader to introduce tailored Learning & Development programs designed for women in Asia, Christine has been a key player to boost women’s performance in the hospitality industry, which is one of the most important industries in the region.
“We constantly refer to gender balance, but it is more than just this: it is about culture, age, abilities, education, nationality and more,” says Christine. “A fully integrated and diverse organisation generates opportunities for learning and innovation, creating a dynamic culture, which in turn can achieve great things. In addition, having a diverse leadership helps to inspire the next generation in terms of the possibilities the future can hold – imagine there was no bias and everyone was recognised for their talent and potential.”
Holding a Masters in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Recreation, Christine has been a member of the Accor family for over 25 years, having worked in twelve hotels as well as two regional offices and four corporate headquarters in Australia, Singapore and France.
Some of her other accolades include the Tourism Training Australia’s National Tourism Legend Award in 2009, Accor’s Silver Bernache Award for Innovation in 2010 and Accor’s Team Bernache Award for the integration of the Raffles, Fairmont and Swissotel brands in 2016.
