Sofitel Guiyang Hunter is celebrating its first anniversary. Since opening its doors early in 2017, the hotel has established itself as the provincial capital’s highest landmark and as a benchmark of French style and traditional oriental hospitality.
During the past 12 months Sofitel Guiyang Hunter has blazed a trail in this environmentally friendly city. It is a market leader in Guiyang as its prominent location atop the highest CBD building makes it the natural choice for leisure and business travellers. The hotel is continuing to reinforce its corporate social responsibility programme, raising environmental awareness internally and within the community.
This year’s anniversary celebrations will include a Vertical Marathon for over 200 participants, on World Earth Day, April 22nd. Contestants from all over China and the rest of the world will tackle the climb up 55 floors (1,308 stairs) to the hotel’s Sky Lobby. Last year’s winner crossed the finishing line in 7 minutes and 47 seconds. It is hoped that this year’s event will set new records and also encourage people to be less reliant on lifts, using stairs in keeping with the city’s lifestyle approach and AccorHotels’ Planet 21 initiative to protect the earth and boost physical fitness.
In addition, the hotel’s Planet 21 initiative will turn the spotlight on the wild vegetables of Guizhou Province. Chef Huang from Le Chinois Chinese Restaurant will be exploring remote mountainous areas in search of local ingredients for the restaurant’s new seasonal menus. He regards this as an essential part of encouraging people to live in harmony with nature, respecting the environment while they eat healthy and delicious food.
“The hotel has been a major city landmark since we opened our doors,” says Jeffery Leng, General Manager of Sofitel Guiyang Hunter. “Our blend of French elegance with local accents creates an exceptional hospitality experience. We do our utmost to provide all guests with memorable cousu-main service. The opening of the Chongqing-Guizhou Railway in January this year has greatly improved connectivity between the two major cities and opened up the many scenic attractions of southwest China. The newly accessible golden tourism trail combines natural heritage, ethnic customs and liquors. Visitors come year-round from all parts of China and beyond to experience the superb scenery of this mountainous province.”
Guiyang is a city of cultural contrasts, not least at mealtimes. It has a strong tradition of local ethnic snacks and at the same time it has long been receptive to outside culinary influences. Le Chinois Chinese Restaurant recently launched an all-you-can-eat Cantonese dim sum buffet that perfectly complements the restaurant’s Qian cuisines. A French style afternoon tea is featured at the Sky Lobby’s unique Le Bar which offers an outstanding range of selected wines and signature cocktails.
The hotel’s 2,600sqm of function and leisure space include a 650sqm ballroom and the brand’s signature So SPA and So FIT featuring French products. The hotel is geared to family and MICE business, both of which will see steady increase thanks to the city’s tourism initiatives.
