Pullman announces the final stop for the Artist Playground Travelling Art Exhibition, at Pullman Shanghai South, opened on March 24th, 2018. Popular in earlier shows at Pullman hotels in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Nanjing Lukou Airport, the Travelling Art Exhibition features 15 pieces of installation art created on suitcases by talented artists who have combined various media including painting, sculpture and stacking.
For the Pullman Shanghai South exhibition, the six artists from the earlier exhibitions were joined by three additional artists who each contributed an individual interpretation of the theme.
Curated by Su Bing, Travelling Art shows how nine artists can find diverse artistic inspiration in something as mundane as a suitcase. Travel on business or pleasure is a fact of life for most people. But the suitcase is packed with historic vignettes, riotous pop art colours, nostalgia and intriguing personal insight likening the traveller to an astronaut dancing between planets. These art installations will stir various emotions and they will change the way we all think about the nature of travel and of human existence.
“The thinking behind the Pullman Artist Playground concept is to bring life to our commitment to design, art and photography, local culture and collaboration with artists and designers around the world,” says Christophe Lauras, Vice President Operations, Luxury and Upscale, AccorHotels Greater China. “The Travelling Art Exhibition kicked off in Guangzhou in late 2017, moved to Nanjing earlier this year and has now opened in Shanghai. We have been delighted by the very positive feedback. Guests enjoy the Artist Playground initiative and the way it encapsulates the brand’s dynamic culture and special experience. ”
“Pullman Shanghai South is situated in the city’s most vibrant district. The hotel strikes the perfect blend of business and pleasure for the new generation of hyper-connected and sophisticated travellers,” says Joseph Mak, General Manager of Pullman Shanghai South. “In the midst of Shanghai’s rich cultural mix, it is particularly meaningful for us to provide a platform for artists to express their feelings about travel through a diverse range of unexpected materials and styles.”
The Travelling Art exhibition is open to hotel guests and the general public from March 24th to May 31st in the lobby of Pullman Shanghai South.
