“Within the hospitality sector, you can do whatever you want!”
Mary Gostelow Luxury Travel Concierge and Communicator, joins Duncan O’Rourke, CEO Accor Northern Europe, on the Heart of Hospitality Podcast
Publisher of market intelligence handbook the Gostelow Report, Mary’s illustrious journey in hospitality has seen her engage in a wide range of strategic and operational roles across an industry she describes as the ‘best live performance in the world’.
“Every day in hospitality is an experience to perform. It is an opportunity to show creativity, to show tender loving care,” said Mary Gostelow.
“It is the only sector of life that I can think of immediately, where the individual can do their own thing. Within the hospitality sector, you can do whatever you want. You're not going to make millions, but money is not everything. What you're going to get is a boost to your own feeling of self-importance. You're going to learn so much - you're going to learn about teamwork, you're going to learn about giving back.”
“I'm attracted to it every single day,” she added.
The pair discuss the opportunities for newcomers to bring new ideas to the industry and how success isn’t just measured by experience in the industry.
“Anybody can come in at any level,” commented Mary, “They can be any age with the right outlook on life and attitude.”
Her advice to those considering a new career?
“Try hospitality because it's lots of fun.”
