Accor signs the first project in Uzbekistan
Mercure Tashkent will open in summer 2022
The Mercure hotel will open following the rebranding of the popular Lumiere Hotel & SPA Tashkent, located in the business district of the capital of Uzbekistan. While every Mercure hotel is unique, all share the same passion for high quality service and local discovery. The refurbished four-star hotel will offer guests all the benefits of Mercure's international standards of service and quality of care, including the opportunity to become a member of the global loyalty program ALL - Accor Live Limitless.
"We are delighted to expand our presence in Central Asia and add a new country to the map of Accor Group. Uzbekistan has boundless potential for tourism development: rich culture, unique architecture and authentic cuisine will definitely impress tourists from all over the world. We are confident the opening of more hotels under well-known international brands will be an important argument in favour of visiting Tashkent. We have intentionally chosen the Mercure brand for the opening of the first hotel in this country as, in our view, it is the best brand to showcase the spirit of Tashkent for the foreign guests, and also to introduce Accor values and benefits to both residents and tourism industry players", notes Alexis Delaroff, COO of Accor New East Europe.
Tashkent is one of the oldest cities that was situated on the Great Silk Road from China to Europe. The first information about Tashkent as an urban settlement appeared in written sources in the 2nd century B.C. Today it is the largest city in Central Asia and the capital of Uzbekistan, with a population of 2.5 million people. The city has an exquisite mix of medieval buildings from the pages of ancient Oriental fairy tales, elegant European architecture, Soviet-era buildings and the gleaming high-rises of modern business centres made of glass and steel. For many years Tashkent has been the most important business and cultural centre of the country, attracting tourists and businessmen from all over the world.
The hotel is located in the city's business district on Shota Rustaveli Street, just a 10-minute drive from Tashkent International Airport and the city centre. Shota Rustaveli is one of the central streets of the Uzbek capital and was the route to Jizzakh and Samarkand in ancient times, today it is home to many shops, cafes and restaurants.
The hotel provides the perfect base for exploring Tashkent's attractions. Guests can easily reach the main museums, the legendary Chorsu Bazaar and the historic city centre. Bazaars in Tashkent and Central Asia in general have been an integral part of culture since ancient times, offering not only famous spices, local delicacies and utensils, but also a real taste of the Oriental culture. Those who travel with children can spend an unforgettable day at Central Asia's largest amusement park, Magic City, just 4km from the hotel.
The new Mercure will offer 126 spacious and comfortable rooms designed with a local touch and traditional ornaments. The French windows, overlooking the city, preserve a sense of air and space. From a desk to a seating area, the rooms provide everything the guests need to work and relax, making everyone feel at home.
Guests will have an access to the spa with an indoor pool and sauna, as well as state-of-the-art fitness centre. The hotel will also feature a restaurant, a cafe and lobby bar.
The new Mercure in Tashkent is scheduled to open in the summer of 2022.
