Fairmont hotels offer sustainable solutions in the UK and Ireland as 87% of holidaymakers consider environmental impact of travel
Food and Beverage
Sustainable sips at The Savoy, A Fairmont Managed Hotel
The Savoy is renowned for its historic luxury and art deco style, with a contemporary cocktail menu being one of the hotel’s many highlights. The hotel’s Beaufort Bar has recently collaborated with Nadar Gin, the world’s first climate positive gin, to introduce a new cocktail, ‘Flora’. Made from delicious EcoSpirits, sustainable seasonal ingredients and using revolutionary techniques, ‘Flora’ is possibly Europe’s most sustainable cocktail and for each cocktail purchased, a tree is planted in The Savoy’s very own forest in Borneo.
Home-grown herbs and honey at Fairmont Windsor Park
Located on the edge of historic Windsor Great Park and within an hour of London, Fairmont Windsor Park is set in the picturesque English countryside. The hotel’s expansive grounds are home to two beehives cared for by Fairmont Windsor Park’s resident beekeeper, and when ready, honey from the hives will be harvested for use in the hotel’s restaurant. A kitchen garden is also being cultivated to grow herbs and plants for use by the hotel’s talented chefs.
Guest Experiences
Environmental immersion at Fairmont St Andrews
Set in a unique coastal setting on a 520-acre estate, Fairmont St Andrews is perfectly located for guests to enjoy peace and seclusion amongst stunning Scottish scenery. The hotel boasts a program of environmental activities available to guests throughout the year including beach clean-ups, gardening projects and more. For example this spring, families have the opportunity to sow the wild flower meadow and grow seedlings with the hotel’s Head Gardener.
As part of Fairmont’s Bee Sustainability program, the property also has an extensive on-site bee hotel including three hives, which are each home to roughly 50,000 bees during the summer. Guests are able to enjoy a private session with one of Fairmont St Andrews’ three beekeepers to learn about the bees, their habitat and explore the hives with bee suits provided.
For those wanting to get even closer with nature, the hotel also offers foraging and wildlife tours with an expert in local flora, fauna and edible natural fruits on the coastal path.
Eco-initiatives
Clean for a Cause at Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel
One of Ireland’s finest stately homes, Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel is located in the beautiful Kildare countryside and offers historic luxury only a short drive from Dublin. The hotel has recently collaborated with leading international social enterprise, Clean the World, to recycle soap bars and bottled amenities. After being transported to a Clean the World facility by a carbon neutral transfer, the bars are then used to create new soap for countries in need of hygiene products.
Upcycled slippers at Fairmont Windsor Park
The jute, coir and coconut slippers available to hotel spa and overnight guests are made from the thickest and most resilient of all commercial natural fibres coir, which is a waste material extracted from the outer shell of coconuts grown on land throughout the tropics. This material has tremendous resistance to microbial action and requires no chemical treatment. Coir is a healthy substitute for processed synthetic rubber, and it is used in the slippers in combination with natural rubber latex sap.
