Mercure Antwerp City Centre has been completely rebuilt and renewed. Mercure hotels all have their own story and are inspired by the local environment. The designs of the Antwerp Six therefore play a major role in the design of this centrally located hotel.
The Antwerp Six is a group of fashion designers - consisting of Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Van Saene, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee - who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in the 1980s. Together, they have put Belgium on the fashion map. Mercure Antwerp City Centre pays tribute to the Six by featuring their designs and styles throughout the hotel.
The Antwerp Six
"Antwerp fashion stands for high quality, personality, craft and inspiration. These characteristics are reflected in the rooms, common areas and Lunet restaurant. The colourful entrance and lobby of Mercure Antwerp City Centre are inspired by the work of Van Beirendonck and others. The handmade furniture is custom made and the fabric used for the Mercure Wall is also found in the hotel's restaurant chairs. Everything about this hotel is inspired by the high level of Antwerp's creative scene; from the leather wall panels and catwalk hallways to the wide range of decorations in the public areas. In the 128 spacious rooms, Van Noten's work stands out; the wallpaper is inspired by his spring 2012 collection and the famous Antwerp blue colour range is also prominent," Daisy Tucci, Director Sales & Marketing FLI Group.
Lunette and central location
Breakfast at Mercure Antwerp City Centre is offered in the inner garden and consists of an extensive buffet with local products. Dinner is served in the brand new Lunet restaurant, where guests can enjoy seasonal cuisine and dishes made with as many local ingredients as possible. Ideal after a day of strolling through Antwerp. The hotel is centrally located, around the corner from Antwerp Central Station and right next to the city park. And if you are in the mood for more fashion and design; MoMu Antwerp is within walking distance of the hotel! Guests who book before February, can also enjoy Mode 2.021 Antwerp - Mode/Bewust, the reopening programme of the fashion museum. Until January 2021, there is an interesting line-up of exhibitions, open-air projects, city walks and activities.
Jorrit de Jong is the Area Vice President Europe of the management partner of FLI Group, responsible for, among others, Mercure Antwerp City Centre. He likes to see locals find their way to the hotel and has found the perfect partner for this in Mercure: "The magic of Mercure is that it is a brand where the hotel is allowed to have its own unique look and feel, and not a standardised one. That's why, with Mercure Antwerp City Centre, we can focus on that local connection. We want movement. We want Antwerpers to come and eat at our restaurant and the children playing in the park to come and get an ice cream from us."
Cristina de Oliveira-Frewen, SVP Franchise Operations - Accor Northern Europe: "We think it's very important that our partners also see the added value in continuously renewing our network and that the quality characteristics that go with the Mercure brand are guaranteed. We are fully confident that Mercure Antwerp City Centre has a high appeal for both business and leisure guests who want to travel to Antwerp. We are constantly strengthening our position in Belgium. Accor continues to develop in order to best meet the needs of our customers."
